All the inspiration to a unique band gift
I had this idea – no, the VISION – on November 26th, 2018. Yes, I remember the date very well. Mars Insight had landed that day, social media was all about it and I have been listening Bowie all day. Also that day my beloved band Ghost had announced more tour dates in the US and impressed me with a few venues that sparked some thoughts in my head.
No 1: Wow, one day they’re gonna make it to Madison Square Garden. This is a bucket list venue for probably every musician.
No 2: I bet Mr. Ghost has a bucket list with classic once-in-a-lifetime venues.
No 3: Everyone who has a Bucket List has a checklist of places they’ve played.
More than a Map
It’s so easy to get the idea to pin them down, isn’t it? I do this with countries I’ve traveled, because I’ve been on the road myself a lot. But a map with pins doesn’t impress anyone. I wanted to give my favorite band something as impressive as the band’s music is to me. Inspiration came easily that night. This is where the Mars Insight comes to my mind again and some memories of an artist who used to make 3D globes – of Earth, Moon and maybe that day had inspired her to a model of Mars. I was inspired to pin Ghost rituals and venues on a globe. After all, Ghost meant the world to me.
I don’t copy ideas so I wanted my 3D globe to be different than the ones I had seen, I wanted something unique. The texture of the surface should stand out from the typical blue-green painted globes and was therefore alternated. Apperantely ”The world is on fire” and the official Ghost Instagram account had been posting mostly bling-bling stuff lately. So, yeah, why not wrap the world of my globe into a flaming look – made of rhinestones.
More than a Globe
Never repeating a pattern I thought of something else to texture my oceans and yeah, from light blue to silver rhinestones I ended up with silver mirror tiles within seconds. A disco ball for a band that had earned itself a “disco metal” image with the then highly charting Danse macabre … It fit like a glove and having 3 Gs in the name of my creations perfectly alluded to the disco kings of the 70s – the Bee Gees. That’s when I sat up in bed, the cat was thrown off and I screamed as silently as possible. I was electrified by my own idea. Let’s face it, it was a revelation!
More than the usual World
Pinning down venues – and building them in the first place – should not be that complicated. Although I had never done anything like this before, I went by Walt Disney’s „If you can dream it, you can make it.“ And I dreamt a whole Ghost world that night – with buildings, stadiums, stages, Ghouls, Papas, monsters, bats and rats… and camping toilets.
